The iPhone 4 and 4S are two of the best looking smartphones on the market, with their all metal and glass finish giving an impression of class. The problem with having so much glass on a smartphone though – the iPhone 4/4S has glass on both the front and back of the device – is that it can get scratched all too easily.
The answer to that problem is to use a case, which is standard fare for many iPhone owners. Some people refuse to leave the home without encasing their iPhone in something to try and prevent the almost inevitable scratches and blemishes that come from using an iPhone 24/7. The problem with cases however, is two-fold.
Firstly, some of them are just plain ugly. Why take a phone that looks as nice as the iPhone does and then coat it on some horrible, cheap material that ruins the overall effect. The second problem is that the few iPhone cases that are actually good quality, and don’t intrude on the overall look and feel of the phone, are likely the same cases that all your friends already own. If you’re going to use a case, it may as well offer something a little different, right?
CaseApp aims to offer an alternative to either having your iPhone get scratched, or have it wear the same case as everyone else. One free App Store app will allow anyone to design and buy their own iPhone case right on the device itself, with no knowledge of the process needed.
Creating your case is easy. Install the app and then tell it which photo you want to use. It needs to be a fairly large one, and anything taken with your iPhone’s camera will do the trick. The reason for the requirement of a large photo is that the image will actually be wrapped around the sides of your case, making the whole thing appear to be one continuous image. If you choose the right photo you might not even notice the sides of the case once constructed because the image will mask it. Pretty cool.
Once you’ve chosen your photo and viewed it using the app’s 3D preview function, CaseApp offers the ability to add some slight theming to proceedings, but after that it is simply a case of buying the finished product in-app, and waiting for it to turn up.
CaseApp cases will cost $30 plus shipping, and are available now. Check out the video demo below and see the app in action:
