Cydia Substrate 0.9.6110 Released, What Has Changed And How To Update Now

Saurik has one again taken the opportune to prove that he is consistently working on providing an efficient, painless jailbreak experience to all of those who enjoy a liberated iOS device. To celebrate the coming off the weekend, Jay Freeman, the creator of Cydia and the guy often referred to as the “Godfather of modern jailbreaking”, has updated Cydia Substrate to version 0.9.6110, bringing with it a number of important fixes that should prevent a lot of crashes that have been being experienced on jailbroken hardware.

The full accompanying change log that has been shipped along the update is as follows:

0.9.6110 fixes an issue where extension [sic] that are corrupt (often on purpose by the developer for obfuscation purposes :/) cause Substrate’s attempt to detect whether the extension will cause the process to crash to actually just cause Substrate to crash :/. (In addition to all of the numerous improvements I make every time I cut a new release).

So basically, Saurik has taken the opportunity to fix a rather niggling and difficult to track down issue that has been causing an unnecessary cause with Cydia Substrate on jailbroken iPhones and iPads. As is always the case with any software or extension release, version 0.9.6110 also ships with a number of other continuous improvements that are designed to make the whole experience of using the utility a lot better for the end-user and the developers that interact with Cydia Substrate. For one reason or another, Saurik, like other developers, fails to provide a granular list of those fixes and improvements.

Today’s release of Cydia Substrate version 0.9.6110 comes just approximately two weeks after Freeman issued not one, but two amendments to the Substrate package in one day. Version 0.9.6100 was issued for update on October 29th, bringing with a check and blocking feature for extensions that would be guaranteed to crash devices on iOS 9. Version 0.9.6101 was issued almost immediately after that with a number of critical bug fixes for issues that had managed to slip through whatever quality assurances processes Cydia Substrate is put through.

So there we have it. As we head into the weekend with no more information being released about the possibility of an iOS 9.1 jailbreak, at least we have an updated Cydia Substrate to ease our minds.

To update to the latest version of Cydia Substrate, launch Cydia Installer, tap on Changes tab, and then tap on Modify > Upgrade to get onto the latest version of Cydia Substrate.
