When a game manages to garner a mass amount of attention a full year before release, there’s usually a very good reason, and by releasing a gameplay trailer of Crysis 3, Electronic Arts has pretty much justified all the fuss in two minutes flat.
As enthusiasts of all things electronic, we’re used to waiting – often on a whim – for our next beloved product to arrive, but the time between the teaser and release in the gaming world borders on the unbearable. Set to release in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and of course, the PC, if this trailer is anything to go by, there are going to be very few disappointed faces once this title hits the stores.
It was only announced last week, but already the buzz is reaching fever pitch, and it will certainly be interesting to see whether the title, powered by Cyrtek’s CryEngine 3, will continue to gather and maintain the momentum. Titles such as Crysis are landmark in their own right, and much like Halo, users will happily wait years and years for the next installment, and still buy further sequels even if it turns out to be garbage.
Last week’s 19 second teaser video – if you can even call it that - was almost an act of cruelty to the avid gamer, taunting those who would happily queue in all weathers to get their hands on the title. That was all in anticipation for the gameplay video though, and today’s more substantial offering gives a good indication of what’s in the pipeline.
As you would expect, there will be plenty of promotional deals encircling the title from now right up to release, and those wishing to be among the first to fire up Crysis 3 when it lands can order the new Crysis 3 Hunter Edition, which boasts a plethora of additional features, weapons, and other niceties.
Although EA, publisher of an awful lot of big games, takes much of the PR plaudits, the slick renders shown in the above clip are all thanks to the CryEngine 3 from Crytek, which looks to be putting in a decent shift.
