The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are well and truly here, and judging by the long lines seen across the world today outside numerous stores, Apple has yet another hit on their hands. But there are still a few lingering questions regarding the device which are begging to be answered, and the one that tops our list is: is the T-Mobile iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus – available on the Apple Store – fully carrier unlocked?
It has now been confirmed by those who bought the device today that T-Mobile iPhone 6 and 6 Plus available on the Apple Store is not tied to the carrier for eternity, and users are free to use it on any cellular operator they so wish, such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint etc., and that too right out of the box.

Getting into the shackles of a two-year contract and being restricted to a particular carrier might not always work for everyone. Luckily, if you scroll down on Apple’s iPhone 6 / 6 Plus ordering page, you have the option to get both the devices on T-Mobile as well – apart from the usual AT&T, Verizon or Sprint ones – which is contract free and prices start from $650, for the basic, 16GB base model and going all the way to $950 if you’re opting for the iPhone 6 Plus with 128GB of on-board storage.
You see, the contract free T-Mobile iPhone 6 that Apple is selling is what is generally referred to as the “factory unlocked” version of the smartphone. This means that even though it ships with a T-Mobile SIM card, it isn’t locked to the carrier at all, and thus, you can discard the SIM and put in one of your choice. This is a great news not just for consumers in general, but especially people who want to use the iPhone in a country of their choice where Apple doesn’t officially operate. Of course, you’ll be paying the full price instead of the subsidized one that carriers offer, but the trade-off is usually worth for a lot of people who can afford it.
