Apple announced the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro lineups a little over 24 hours ago and we’re still working out all of the little bits of information that the company didn’t share in its video.
One of those is the amount of RAM these new iPhones have, but MacRumors has been digging through the latest Xcode 12.1 beta to find out. The answer? They have a lot of RAM.
Specifically, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max both have a lot. 6GB of RAM, to be exact. That’s the first time we’ve seen so much RAM put into an iPhone and it matches some iPad Pro models.
In terms of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, it seems both of those mid-range handsets have 4GB of RAM inside. It isn’t yet clear whether that will make a big difference in the way the iPhones behave in real-world use, but we doubt it. Instead, it’s like the extra RAM was required for things like HDR video recording at 60fps – something the mid-range iPhones aren’t capable of
The news comes after MacRumors dug through the files within Xcode 12.1, something that has yielded similar kinds of information in the past.
Apple announced all four new iPhones yesterday with the first going up for pre-order this coming Friday, October 16. That’s for those who want to get hold of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Anyone wanting the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max will need to wait for their pre-orders to begin on November 6, unfortunately.
