These jailbreak developers just can’t stop cranking out Notification Center tweaks can they? The latest in a long line of 3rd-party widgets brings iOS stats to the Notification Center.
Created by Jordon (@GreySyntax on Twitter), SpringPrefs offers up all those useful little iOS statistics in a handy little widget.
The information displayed includes: free RAM, WiFi and data IPs, uptime, load average and the iOS version number – all in an unobtrusive yet easily accessible way.
The widgets in iOS 5 have proven to be a favorite hacking companion for skilled jailbreak developers. We can only hope Apple opens up the power of Notification Center widgets to App Store developers once iOS 5 is made available to the public later this year.
We’re hopeful of widgets that are built as companions to fully-fledged iOS apps – widgets showing a couple of tweets from a Twitter stream, or Facebook wall updates for example would really bring iOS into the same league as its Android competition when it comes to small, lightweight ways to access information.
iOS 5 is Apple’s latest and greatest version of its mobile operating system that powers the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The first beta of iOS 5 is currently in the hands of developers for testing with their own apps, and a final release is expected to coincide with new iPhone hardware in or around September.
In order to install this widget, your iPhone must be running iOS 5 Beta, jailbroken. If you’re already running iOS 5, you can apply a tethered jailbreak using Redsn0w for Windows or Mac, or by using Sn0wbreeze.
