Wondering if iOS 18’s iPhone RCS messaging feature is compatible with your carrier? Follow these simple steps to check its functionality on your iPhone!
The launch of iOS 18 brought with it support for RCS, a new messaging system that improves upon SMS and allows iPhone owners to send and receive rich messages and media with users of Android devices. But not everyone will see the option thanks to their carrier.
Users’ carriers must enable RCS support in order for their iPhones to use the feature, but not all carriers have done that so far.
Apple has now updated its list of carriers as well as those that support RCS as a result of iOS 18, and you can check your carrier to make sure it’s good to go.
Those who have already updated to iOS 18 and whose carrier does support RCS can enable the feature right now. Open the Settings app, select Apps, and then Messages before enabling the RCS option. If you don’t see the option to enable RCS then you’re carrier does not yet support it, unfortunately.
The iOS 18 update brings with it support for new Home Screen customization options, among other things, and is available to download now.
It does not, however, include support for Apple Intelligence just yet. Apple Intelligence will launch as part of the iOS 18.1 software update that is now expected to be released in October. Some Apple intelligence features won’t arrive until iOS 18.2 however, including image-based generative AI features.
