Apple yesterday unveiled the new iPhone OS 4 in an event held at their 1-Infinite loop campus in Cupertino. Final version of iPhone 4 will be released for iPhone and iPod touch with the next-gen iPhone at WWDC this year. The biggest question here is that how well does this release of OS stands against Google’s ever-so gaining Android OS, and Redmond’s revamped Windows Phone 7.
Windows Phone 7 Series was the official name of the new upcoming mobile OS of Microsoft. It may have sounds catchy for some, but for many, it was tacky at best. And so thankfully, the official Windows Phone account on twitter has confirmed this morning that Microsoft is dropping the “Series” part in the OS name, and so it will be now called as “Windows Phone 7”.
HTC HD2 was a big success in the masses, majorly due to it’s multimedia features and it’s huge screen which provided the user with a rich multimedia experience, but unfortunately, it won’t get the Windows Phone 7 Series upgrade due to the strict hardware requirements of three buttons on the phone: Back, Windows and Search. The grail doesn’t end here, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou hinted on a phone which might probably be an HD3, and would hit the shelves in the end of this year – that’s exactly an year after HD2 shipped.
Here is a simple how-to guide on running Windows Phone 7 Series emulator without having to run the entire Visual Studio 2010 IDE. If you have installed the development tools (including Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows phone), you’ll notice that the .exe file for emulator (xde.exe) is automatically installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft XDE\1.0\ location. Simply double clicking on Xde.exe file wont start the emulator as it requires some command line parameters.

Today in a major breakthrough, Microsoft's Eric Rudder, while speaking at Tech-Ed Middle East, gave a fantastic demonstration of a game developed in the new Visual Studio 2010 as a singular project, that runs on multiple platforms. It can be played on Windows 7 based PC with a keyboard, on a Windows Phone 7 Series prototype device with accelerometer and touch controls, and on the Xbox 360 with gamepad. Amazing, isn't it? One same game, running on three different screens, on three different platforms. There is also no reason why Zune wont chip-in to these sometime in near future.
