Anyone who wants to buy a PlayStation 5 should be able to do it now, with Sony saying that the global shortage is now over.
Buying a PlayStation 5 has been harder than you might expect ever since its release in November of 2020. But things are finally improving, with Sony now saying that it has solid around 30 million units.
That means that it has sold five million more units since it last shared numbers back in November 2022.
“Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward,” said Sony’s Jim Ryan during a presentation at CES 2023. The Verge notes that it hasn’t been easy for gamers to get the consoles to date, something Ryan also acknowledged.
During the presentation, Ryan thanked PlayStation fans for their patience as the company “managed unprecedented demand amid global challenges over the past two years.”
Sony isn’t the only company to have struggled to meet demand in recent years, of course. Microsoft’s Xbox Series S/X consoles have experienced similar shortages, while Apple hasn’t been able to make products available for easy purchase since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
All eyes will now be on the impending release of the PS VR2, a new VR gaming headset that will launch next month. Will Sony be able to meet demand, or will similar shortages present themselves?
