HTC is a company struggling to maintain consumer interest in the mobile market, and despite acquiring a majority share in Beats Audio, sales of its smartphones have been steadily falling. The HTC One X is the company’s current flagship, and despite being very well-equipped in terms of processor power, camera quality and most of the relevant hardware categories, it seems folk have been way more interested in the Samsung Galaxy S III and iPhone 5. In fact, it doesn’t seem – that’s simply how it is.
The Taiwanese outfit was catching quite a bit of flak for confusing product lines and releasing smartphones in an apparent random order, and although it has, to a degree, straightened things out, the devices still aren’t shifting as quickly as the company would like.
With quite a few new smartphones in the pipeline, all certainly is not lost, and in an attempt to try and draft in new custom, HTC has quite an attractive incentive for those still pondering their next smartphone purchase. The iPhone 5 is certainly the handset on everybody’s lips right now, but rivaling companies are certainly out to poach would-be Apple customers, and HTC is joining that group by offering $300 in “trade up” value to customers who purchase a new smartphone from the company’s roster.
In essence, you buy a new smartphone from HTC, and the company gives you back their valuation of your device. Seems straightforward enough, but unlike the usual trade-ins which subtract your device’s value from the one you’re purchasing, you’ll only get that money after you’ve paid full whack for the phone.
Ultimately, you don’t lose anything, although you feel consumers could easily yield a similar value from the many companies buying second-hand phones, and go and buy something other than an HTC. Nevertheless, the company has laid out an easy-to-use online system from which you’ll get a quote for your current handset, and prices seem reasonable enough.
To give you an idea of how much money you’ll be getting, $150 is paid out for a fully-operational Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX on Verizon, and if you want to take advantage of the offer, head over to http://htctradeup.com/ and check out how much you could receive for your current smartphone.
