Bloomberg: iOS 15 And iPadOS 15 Will Bring Big Changes, Including New iPad Home Screen, Notifications, And More

If everything goes according to plan Apple will announce iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 during WWDC in June and then release the updates to the public in or around September.

Now, according to Bloomberg, we can expect some big changes from both of those releases.

In a new article for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman cites unnamed sources as saying that Apple is going to change the way notifications work this year. Notifications could be blocked when someone is doing a specific activity, for example. Apple already puts your iPhone into DND mode when driving.

The company is planning a new feature that will allow users to set different notification preferences, such as if the phone makes a sound or not, depending on their current status. The enhancement will come in the form of a new menu that lets users select if they are driving, working, sleeping or custom categories of their choosing. The menu will be shown on the updated Lock Screen and in Control Center, the iPhone and iPad’s menu for quickly accessing settings.

The same report goes on to say that Apple is thought to be working on ways to make iMessage a competitor to services like WhatsApp by adding more social network-like features. However, those features are still in early development and might not make iOS 15, the source reportedly said.

Apple si also thought to be working on a new iPad Home screen, although Gurman doesn’t go into detail as to what that will entail. Apple made big changes with iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 by allowing Home screen widgets to be used. It’ll be interesting to see how it expands upon that.
