Beats Music Streaming Service Launched; Available On iPhone, Android, Windows Phone And Web

After being originally teased back in October of last year, the Beats Music app is now available to download for iOS, Android and Windows Phone through the relevant app stores. Beats, a company who take their music very seriously, are describing the new service as a place being “curated by people who believe music is emotion and life“. The differentiating factor that exists within Beats Music appears to be the fact that the app and service is built around musical customization that exists to try and present subscribers with a perfectly curated playlist of music based on their current tastes and moods.

One of the biggest features of the Beats Music app is the “Right Now” offering that attempts to generate a collection of right music for the current user. In an attempt to deliver the perfect musical collection for that particular moment, Beats Music requests to know where you are, how you’re feeling and who you’re with and then delivers a seemingly infinite playlist of tunes based on those parameters. The app promises to deliver a “unique stream of music that fits your situation perfectly“. The jury is still out on whether Beats has managed to perfect this as many other music selection services have failed to come up with the goods in the past.

The app also allows itself to be heavily customized by the user through the selection of favorite bands, artists and genres. The functionality exists to follow the comings and goings of a particular artist as well as “like” or “dislike” a track to try and let the service learn about your preferences. All of these features are intended to provide a more personal and curated playlist of tracks without the user being required to create a list manually. The service offers more than 20 million tracks spread out across a wide variety of popular genres, meaning that there should definitely be a broad choice for most tastes.

The Beats Music service is currently only available for customers in the United States and comes with an unlimited seven-day trial to test out the service. After the trial has ended, the service requires a $9.99 monthly subscription to continue.  The service itself sounds very impressive, but will Beats Music manage to compete with the likes of iTunes Radio, Pandora and Spotify thanks to its different visual approach? Or will it get lost in an already crowded marketplace?
