BACtrack, one of the world leaders in the production and distribution of breathalyzing technology, has announced a new product that will instantly appeal to Apple Watch owners who love a little bit of an alcoholic tipple.
The company’s latest Skyn product and hardware is being offered as a standalone wristband proposition, as well as being offered as an interchangeable Apple Watch band which can be used with Apple’s intelligent timepiece. The company is well-known for producing accurate, and highly trusted breathalyzers that have been historically used in all walks of life.
Hardware manufactured by the company is not only used by individuals looking to keep an eye on their blood alcohol content, but also by organizations, local authorities and emergency services who use the equipment in a more commercial and serious manner. This latest product is definitely aimed at the former, with average consumers now being able to instantly check if they are over the legal alcohol limit “passively, accurately, and near real-time”, according to BACtrack.
The Skyn hardware is definitely a new dimension for the company, as well as those consumers looking for a product of this nature. In addition to tracking blood alcohol content with minimal fuss, and without actually requiring having to give a breath sample, this new technology from BACtrack also affords users with the ability to set up custom alerts and alarms to let them know when they have taken their blood alcohol content above the legal limit.
The wearable will also show users exactly how their BAC is changing as they consume alcohol to give them a greater understanding of how alcohol actually affects them and changes their system.
In addition to actually be an intelligent, but simple-to-use consumer-facing product, BACtrack also believes that this new wearable will bring about new research and treatment opportunities thanks to the automated nature of the hardware and the technology within, which will provide more accurate, reliable, and almost real-time data.
From a launch perspective, the new Skyn is expected to be available for sale sometime during the second or third quarter of the year, with an expected sale price of around the $99 mark. As for Apple HealthKit integration, there’s no word on that just yet, but we know that earlier BACtrack products including the BACtrack app, all support HealthKit.
