Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset is almost ready to go up for preorder and as we get closer to the big February 2 release we’re starting to learn more and more about the mystery product.
Now, details about the chip that will be used in the headset have been reported.
That report comes via Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in a post on X, the social network that was formerly known as Twitter. We already knew that Apple would use an M2 chip inside the Vision Pro headset, but it wasn’t clear what configuration that chip would be. Now, Gurman confirmed that the M2 used here will have a 10-core GPU and an 8-core CPU.
This configuration is the same one that is used in the higher-end 13- and 15-inch MacBook Airs which means that we can have some kind of idea as to what kind of performance the chip will be capable of.
We also know that the entry-level Vision Pro will ship with 16GB of RAM — more than those MacBook Airs — and 256GB of storage. It still isn’t known whether there will be more storage options available, but if there are there has been a suggestion that they could top out at 1TB.
The Vision Pro will start at $3,499 when it goes up for preorder on Friday, January 19 at 5.00 a.m. PST in the United States. It’ll then go on sale on February 2 and will mark Apple’s first entry into a whole new market since the arrival of the Apple Watch in 2014.
