Apple’s Vision Pro won’t go on sale until February 2 but it’s already received a new software update. That means that while the spatial computing headset will arrive on the heads of buyers with visionOS 1.0.0 preinstalled, a new software update will immediately be available.
It isn’t yet known exactly what that visionOS 1.0.1 software update will bring to the table, but it’s been noted by developer Nicolás Álvarez that this is a delta release rather than a full over-the-air update.
That means that the download will be small and most likely doesn’t add any new features but rather brings bug fixes to the headset.
The new visionOS 1.0.1 update is of course the first update the Vision Pro will receive and we can expect many more to come. It’s been suggested that a visionOS 2.0 update could debut at WWDC in June before being made available to the public later this year. It isn’t immediately obvious whether Apple will offer visionOS as a beta to developers and public beta testers, however, as is the case with iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices.
The Vision Pro is now available for preorder with a starting price of $3,499 for the entry-level 256GB model. Models with 512GB and 1TB of storage are also available for those who need extra room, however.
The Vision Pro will officially go on sale on February 2 and Apple is reportedly already working on a cheaper version although that’s expected to be years away from release.
