Apple’s Rumored Foldable Mac May Run macOS

Apple has long been rumored to be working on two foldable devices, and according to Analyst Jeff Pu – as reported by MacRumors – these foldables are expected to hit mass production in late 2026, with a launch window in 2026 or 2027.

One of these devices is rumored to be a foldable iPhone, featuring a 7.8-inch inner display. The other? A much larger 18.8-inch foldable that could blur the line between a MacBook and an iPad.

Pu believes this bigger device will likely run macOS instead of iPadOS, making it a potential touch-screen Mac. That’s a bold claim, considering Apple has been hesitant to go in that direction.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also hinted at something similar in his Power On newsletter. He mentioned that design updates in iOS 19 and macOS 16 might pave the way for foldables and touch-screen Macs. However, no solid leaks suggest Apple is ready to drop a touch-screen Mac anytime soon.

Pu’s insights seem to build on a Wall Street Journal report, which described the 18.8-inch foldable as a “laptop-like” device. If that’s the case, it might just be a new take on a MacBook rather than a full-fledged foldable Mac.

For now, it’s all speculation, but it would be fair to assume that if Apple is entering the foldable space, they’re probably doing it in a way only Apple can.
