Apple’s oft-rumored 27-inch mini-LED display is now thought to be ready for launch in October, a delay on the previous rumors that one analyst is blaming on recent COVID-19 lockdowns.
According to display analyst Ross Young, Apple is in the process of moving production away from impacted plants although it’s possible that the same company will be used.
Quanta is also tasked with building Apple’s high-end MacBook Pro, a machine that is in high demand and facing long back-ordered dates as a result of the same COVID-19 lockdowns.
The new display was originally going to be manufactured at the Quanta plant in Shanghai.
Apple leak! The 27″ MiniLED monitor has been delayed as it was going to be produced at Quanta in Shanghai which has been locked down. Production is in the process of being moved to a different location and has been delayed. It now looks like an October release.
It’s thought that the use of mini-LED technology would allow for a new display with HDR support and ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate technology. That would likely make the display a costly one, likely sitting between the current Studio Display and the high-end Pro Display XDR.
No official price or release window has been shared by Apple, of course, and that is unlikely to change before the display is ready.
