You’re probably already familiar with the (RED) charity thanks to the work that Apple does to support it, but it’s much more than that. Apple has been a supporter of (RED) for a long time now, and has shared some details on the work that it does as well as how much it has been able to raise since its founding in 2006.
Since that time (RED) has been able to raise more than $600 million to support the Global Fund, with the aim being to end AIDS in Africa.
Of that $600 million, Apple has contributed a third – $200 million – thanks to its initiatives including the (PRODUCT)RED range of products. When anyone buys a product from that range Apple donates a portion of the proceeds to (RED) with the iPhone XR being the latest to include a (PRODUCT) RED version.
This method of gathering money for the charity has been ongoing for many years now, and not only allows the collection of monies for a great cause, but also manages to also create some of Apple’s best looking devices.
Apple is apparently the world’s largest single corporate donor to (RED) which should perhaps not come as a huge surprise, and the full article outlining what that means to the Global Fund is an interesting read. The Global Fund has been able to to provide money to thousands of facilities across Africa, helping to recuse the number of HIV cases dramatically.
With World AIDS Day taking place this coming Saturday, from December 1st through December 7th $1 form every Apple Pay sale that goes through the Apple Store will be donated to (RED) Apple will also be turning its iconic Apple logo red on many of its physical Apple Stores.
