Apple’s New Studio Display Adds ‘Hey Siri’ Support To Older Macs

Apple’s new Studio Display monitor is now on sale and we’re still learning new things about the $1,599 product. One of those things is that it can actually enable “Hey Siri” support for some Macs that didn’t previously have it.

As reported by MacRumors, connecting some older Macs to the new Studio Display will allow them to take advantage of “Hey Siri” where they were previously not on the list of supported devices.

For example, while “Hey Siri” normally requires a MacBook Pro released in 2018 or later, the feature can be used on 2016 and 2017 models of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro while connected to a Studio Display. Likewise, while “Hey Siri” normally requires an iMac released in 2020 or later, the feature can be used on 2017 through 2019 models of the 21.5-inch iMac and 27-inch iMac while connected to a Studio Display.

It’s likely that this is all made possible by the inclusion of an Apple-designed A13 Bionic chip, just like the one that was in previous iPhones and still powers the current iPad.

Apple hasn’t confirmed the change in “Hey Siri” support, but MacRumors reports that those older Macs do indeed work when connected to the new display.

Apple’s new monitor starts at $1599 and goes up from there depending on the stand and display finish required.
