Apple’s New MacBook Pro Has Already Outsold All Competing Laptops Of 2016

When a company like Apple alludes to the fact that a new device has broken existing online sales records, it’s easy to put a lot of that down to bravado and assume that it’s trying to push its own agenda.

However, when an independent market research firm gets involved in the landscape with metrics and numbers showing Apple’s new 2016 MacBook Pro outselling all other competing laptops on the market in just five days of availability, then you know that Apple definitely has something to shout and be proud about.

The numbers – especially when compared against competing models running Windows – speak for themselves, and should generally leave Apple feeling extremely positive about not only how the new MacBook Pro fits into the current notebook landscape, but also for the future.

Slice Intelligence’s data clearly shows that the new MacBook Pro has outsold the Dell XPS 13 and 15 combined. Even the Surface Book from Microsoft falls way short of the MacBook Pro, showing just how popular Apple’s new macOS-powered hardware is. Comparing sales of the new MacBook Pro to sales of Apple’s other MacBooks also makes impressive reading where the new Pro is concerned.

In just five days of availability, Apple’s MacBook Pro, complete with its new Touch Bar integration, had amassed almost 80% of MacBook sales across 2015 and 2016. It’s interesting to note that Slice’s method of collecting this data isn’t exactly foolproof due to the fact that it comes from being able to analyze receipts from a 4.4 million strong panel of shoppers in the United States, but it should be a large enough spread to provide a tangible understanding of how popular the new MacBook Pro is.

With every positive, there is usually a slight negative attached, and the Slice data also brings that in. It seems that a number of customers were unhappy about Apple not refreshing its MacBook Pro range quick enough, highlighting that 40% of those who purchased an Apple laptop back in 2014 then went on to buy a competing device rather than wait for Apple’s refresh.

Of course, given how the data is collected, there will definitely be some red herrings in the information. Only Apple has access to the true sales figures, but we have a feeling Tim Cook’s company will be more than happy with early sales.
