Apple’s newly announced and refreshed iPad mini will ship with 4GB of RAM when it goes on sale next Friday, September 24. The new iPad 9, also announced during the same California Streaming event, will be limited to the same 3GB of RAM it’s had for years.
By comparison, the M1 iPad Pro has a massive 16GB of RAM, while the very latest iPad Air has 4GB.
The new iPad mini will be a powerful machine thanks to its use of a new Apple A15 Bionic chip, much like the one that will power the new iPhone 13 lineup.
The new RAM discovery was made by MacRumors when checking Xcode strings related to the new model, with a similar method outing the iPhone 12 RAM situation last year. We’ll need to wait until a teardown happens to know for certain, however.
The same type of Xcode strings accurately revealed the amount of RAM in iPhone 12 models last year and in several previous iPhone generations. Teardowns and regulatory filings should provide further confirmation in the coming days.
The new iPad mini starts at $399 and is available for pre-order right now. It’ll go on sale next Friday alongside the iPad 9 as well as the entire iPhone 13 lineup. This new iPad mini is undoubtedly the best yet and could prove to be a very popular little tablet.
