Apple’s New App Is A Way For People To Help Improve Apple Maps

While the Apple Maps app has come a long way in recent years, it’s still not perfect. Apple knows that, so now it’s launched a new app that’s dedicated to letting people help improve it.

The new Maps Surveyor app is available for download from the App Store and appears to have been designed to be used by only specific people – it can’t be used by everyone.

The app, reported by MacRumors, requires that people also download a partner app which is where the issue comes in for those who are not able to get their hands on it. That partner app, Premise, is designed to give people rewards for doing tasks and it seems that’s the expectation here, too, according to the report.

The Premise app is described as a task marketplace that provides money for taking surveys, sharing local information like construction zones or grocery pricing, or taking pictures of city locations

Strings found in the app suggest that users will be able to attach an iPhone to a mount and then use it to capture images along a route while driving using the Premise app. Those images will then presumably be used to improve the Apple Maps experience for everyone else.

It’s unlikely that this app will be rolled out to more people, but it’s notable that Apple has enlisted people to help improve the Maps app beyond the usual sight of mapping apps driving around neighborhoods.
