Apple’s mixed reality headset is something that we’ve heard rumors about for years, but we’re now thought to be just months away from it being announced.
This also means that we’re also learning more about what it will have to offer. Now, a new report goes into details about a Face ID-like feature and more.
According to a new report by The Information, the Apple mixed reality headset will have cameras designed to recognize a person’s iris, allowing the headset to identify its wearer.
That will be useful for a number of things, including authentication in apps when switching accounts as well as making payments. Apple is also expected to allow users to share the same headset and have their irises be used to identify them when putting it on.
Alongside that, the same report believes that the headset will have 14 cameras in total, with some tasked with tracking the lower part of a user’s body, including their feet. Other notable features include a lightweight design, a soft mesh fitting, and more.
Apple is now expected to announce the new headset in the first few months of 2023, with a rumored launch price of around $2,000. That won’t make it cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but given the inclusion of multiple Apple silicon chips and more than a dozen cameras, it’s perhaps to be expected.
