Apple is once again said to be getting ready to play host to the media for a March event, according to sources of 9to5Mac. Those sources claim that Apple is set to announce a new iPad at the event, believed to be the iPad Air 3, while also announcing the new 4-inch iPhone 5se and some new Apple Watch accessories.
Apple’s March event is apparently penciled in for the week of March 14th, though that date is said to still be capable of changing depending on a few factors inside Apple. What is becoming increasingly clear, however, is that Apple does want to hold an event in March, with some new hardware set to be given its debut.
The first of those is said to be the iPad Air 3, bringing the first new, full-size iPad release since October 2014 when the iPad Air 2 was introduced. Since then, Apple has released iPad mini 4 as well as introducing the iPad Pro, but the iPad Air line has been left well alone. With the iPad Air 2 now the oldest of Apple’s flagship tablets, it stands to reason it will get an update sooner rather than later. Current leaks suggest a new, four-speaker audio system similar to that found on the iPad Pro as well as a new LED flash for taking photos. Apple is also said to be testing a separate version of iPad Air 3 with support for Apple Pencil.
Beyond the iPad, the new 4-inch iPhone 5se is likely the most intriguing of the new releases set to arrive in March. A new replacement for the iPhone 5c, this oddly named device is said to include a mishmash of components pulled from Apple’s current and recent iPhone models. The new industrial design is set to do away with the colorful plastics in use on the iPhone 5c line, also, and instead will sport a design similar to iPhone 6/6 Plus and 6s/6s Plus.
Finally, Apple is likely to announce some new Apple Watch accessories, including a new black Milanese Loop as well as a new range of colors for its Sport band. Additional colors for the Hermes line of accessories are also likely to appear in March, while also a whole new band will be released at the same time.
New software updates such as iOS 9.3, watchOS 2.2 and tvOS 9.2 are also expected to put in an appearance, given the current beta status of the software.
March may be a big month for Apple, no matter which of its iOS product line you have your eye on.
