Apple’s iPhone SE 3 Has A Larger Battery Than Before As Well As A Custom Qualcomm Modem

Apple’s new iPhone SE is now on sale and an early teardown shows that the device has a larger battery than previous models.

A new report also notes that the device has a custom Qualcomm modem that appears to be specific to Apple because it isn’t listed on the chipmaker’s website.

The teardown shows that the new iPhone SE has a larger 2,018 mAh battery compared to 1,821 mAh that was found in the model that has just been killed off.

Apple has made a big deal about the battery life of the new iPhone SE, although it says that it’s all down to the power management of the A15 Bionic chip that has made the jump from the iPhone 13 lineup. However, early reviews suggest that the battery life of the new iPhone SE is less than stellar.

In terms of the modem, Nikkei’s xTECH reports that a new Qualcomm X57 5G modem is being used in the new iPhone SE, although that appears to be a custom part. The company doesn’t list the modem anywhere and it seems that it was designed specifically with Apple in mind. It remains to be seen if it makes an appearance anywhere else.

The new iPhone SE sells for $429 at the base of the range. That’s $30 more than last year’s model with the price increase thought to be thanks to the switch to 5G.
