Apple’s iPhone Duo Is Official

After years of rumors, Apple’s first foldable iPhone is finally official.

The iPhone Duo was announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and is the biggest change in the iPhone lineup in years.

The new iPhone Duo is similar in size to a passport and has an outer 5.4-inch display with 90% of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro. On the inside, the iPhone Duo’s foldable screen comes in at 7.6 inches and has an under-display selfie camera. Biometrics are handled by a Touch ID sensor built into the power button on the side of the device.

Apple says that both displays feature ProMotion and Always On technology, with a 3,000-nit peak brightness. Apple Pencil support is coming to the iPhone Duo later this year, but won’t be ready for its release.

Apple also notes that the iPhone Duo is both dust- and water-resistant, and that it uses multiple methods to ensure that the foldable display remains as rigid and distortion-free as possible. Early indications are that the foldable display’s crease is almost invisible during normal use. The hinge can hold the iPhone Duo open at different angles, including fully flat.

Cameras are often a sore point for foldable devices, but the iPhone Duo has two 48-megapixel cameras. The main Fusion camera also offers a 2x telephoto feature, while the other brings 0.5x ultrawide support to the iPhone Duo.

Like the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone Duo uses Apple’s new A20 Pro chip so is set to be a powerhouse when it comes to gaming and AI apps. The redesigned iOS 27 also supports app multitasking, so users can make the most of that large inner display.

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, with storage options all the way up to 2TB. It’ll be available for preorder on October 23 and go on sale on October 30.
