Apple’s iPhone Air Rumors Suggest A Thinner, Lighter Iteration

Apple is expected to announce new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus handsets later this year, but there have been rumors of a new iPhone 17 model with a new, thinner design. Now, it’s believed that the device could be called the iPhone Air.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the iPhone Air is set to be a new version of the iPhone that sits between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, suggesting that it could be designed with thinness and lightness in mind rather than high performance.

He suggests that it could be similar to the MacBook Air laptops from a decade ago.

The idea is to create an “Air” version of the iPhone of sorts, something that sits in between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. The most apt comparison is probably to the original MacBook Air from over a decade ago, which was somewhere between the regular MacBook and MacBook Pro.

It still isn’t immediately clear what that decide will have to offer in terms of internal specifications, but it’s thought that the handset will be aimed at people who want a “snazzier” device than the entry-level iPhone but don’t need the performance and capabilities offered by the high-end Pro models. There is a suggestion that it will have an iPhone 15 Pro Max-like large display replacing the iPhone Plus model along the way.

The iPhone 17 lineup is of course still more than a year away however, and we can expect plenty of rumors before the decide finally ships to the public.
