As the days tick away and we get ever closer to Apple’s rumored September 10th iPhone announcement, more and more information is beginning to leak out about what Tim Cook and his band of merry men will be showing off the the world. There are already plenty of rumors doing the rounds, and those are sure to pick up pace in the next week or two.
The latest information comes from a tweet by Clayton Morris of Fox News fame. The self-confessed gadget fan claims that he has heard that the new top of the range iPhone, expected to be called the iPhone 5S, will feature an A7 processor that is “running at about 31% faster” than the iPhone 5’s A6 model. The A7, according to reports, is expected to feature a dual-core design just as the current crop of chips do.
Separate reports appear to claim that the new A7 may feature a new 64-bit architecture, a jump from the current 32-bit solution that resides inside Apple’s iOS devices. This would certainly help animations and transitions appear take place in a more swift manner than the current devices are capable of, and that’s something that would be of great benefit with the way iOS 7 is shaping up. Apple is making a big switch towards more fluid, motion-heavy features in the new version of iOS, and it will need all the power that it can get in order to provide the seamless experience we have all come to expect from Apple devices.
Morris also suggested that the new handset will feature a specialized motion tracking chip, with the aim being to upgrade the iPhone’s current camera abilities – abilities that are already arguably top of the pile. A new 120fps slow motion feature is expected to be one of the new additions courtesy of that mysterious chip.
Apple’s new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C handsets are expected to be announced on September 10th, with hardware shipping shortly after that. The iOS 7 upgrade will no doubt be made available at the same time as the hardware, so we’d expect a new beta – probably the Golden Master – of iOS 7 on the 10th also.
We’re starting to get a little giddy about the whole thing, and we’ll keep you abreast of any new developments as the big Apple unveiling draws near.
