Apple’s iPhone 17 Air To Cost Less Than Pro Models, Two Foldable Devices Coming In 2026

Apple is gearing up for an exciting product lineup, including an ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air in 2025, followed by two foldable devices in 2026 or later according to The Wall Street Journal.

The report tells us that Apple plans to release a foldable iPhone and a larger foldable device designed to function as a laptop replacement.

The foldable iPhone is expected to unfold to a size larger than the 6.9-inch display of the iPhone 16 Pro Max – potentially exceeding 7 inches. After experimenting with outward-folding designs, Apple has shifted its focus to an inward-folding screen to improve durability.

The second foldable device is designed for productivity and will feature a 19-inch display when unfolded, making it ideal for laptop-like use. While this larger device was initially slated to launch first, the foldable iPhone is now taking priority, with Apple executives pushing for a 2026 release date. However, challenges with hinges and display covers could delay its debut.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air is Apple’s answer for users craving an ultra-thin device. It will be slimmer than current models, which are around 8mm thick, and is aimed at users who prioritize style over high-end features.

Interestingly, the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly cost less than the Pro models, contradicting earlier speculation that it would be a premium device. With the iPhone 16 Pro starting at $999, the Air could be priced closer to $900, replacing the iPhone 16 Plus.

Starting next year, Apple plans to introduce an iPhone that will be thinner than the approximately 8-millimeter profile of current models, said people familiar with the company’s plans. The model is intended to be cheaper than Pro models, with a simplified camera system to reduce costs.

To keep costs down, Apple plans to simplify the camera system while maintaining its sleek design. The Air is expected to appeal to consumers seeking a lighter, more portable iPhone.
