Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Tipped For A 4K Video Recording Frame Rate Upgrade

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max devices on September 9, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also be unveiled.

Now, a new report claims to have information on what buyers of the two best iPhones can expect in terms of camera upgrades.

According to a 9to5Mac source, Apple is indeed increasing the sensor resolution of the ultrawide camera to 48 megapixels, a move that will be joined by an upgrade to 4K video shooting at 120 fps for the first time. There will also be upgrades to video shooting when connected to an external storage device or using the QuickTake feature, too.

But what about new features? When it comes to videos, iPhone 16 Pro will shoot videos in 4K resolution at 120fps for the first time (iPhone 15 is currently limited to 4K 60fps). When connected to external storage, users will be able to shoot ProRes 4K at 120fps. In addition, Apple is upgrading QuickTake from 1080p to 4K.

The report also suggests that Apple has been testing 8K video recording internally, but it’s as-yet unclear whether that feature will ship when the new iPhones are made available to the public. It’s suggested that, since the zoom lens wouldn’t be capable of 8K capture, Apple may wait until the iPhone 17 Pro before making that switch.

Apple is expected to make the new iPhones available for preorder on Friday, September 13 before making them available for sale on September 20.
