Apple’s iPhone 16 Cases May Not Need A Capture Button Cutout, Leaker Claims

Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro handsets are expected to feature a Capture Button for the first time, a button that allows owners to more quickly take photos.

Now, a new report suggests that the Capture Button won’t require a case cutout in order to work, at least not in Apple’s cases.

The report comes via leaker DuanRui who posted to the X social network to say that the Capture Button will not require a cutout, unlike the Action Button. This applies to the iPhone 16 cases produced by Apple, however, and it appears that some third-party companies will instead choose to use a cutout in order not to impact the use of the button itself.

Why Apple’s cases won’t need to have a cutout like those produced by third parties isn’t yet clear, but it’s possible that the company will work some design magic that is as-yet unknown.

It’s expected that the Capture Button will be a capacitive button that will allow people to press the button softer or harder to initiate different functions. It’s likely that a soft push will begin the autofocus action while a firmer press will act as a shutter button on traditional cameras.

Apple is set to hold an event on September 9 which is largely expected to see the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro announced for the first time. The Apple Watch X and an updated version of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 are also expected.
