Buyers of Apple’s most expensive phones might have to put their hands even deeper into their pockets when the iPhone 15 lineup arrives.
That’s because it’s now being reported that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be even more costly than the current models.
Citing an unverified source via Weibo, MacRumors reports that Apple will increase the price of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in an attempt “to widen the gap with the iPhone 15 Plus.”
The extent of the potential price hike is not yet clear. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max start at $999 and $1,099, meaning that any price increase would put both high-end iPhone models north of $1,000 for the first time.
The same report claims that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will benefit from some features previously limited to the Pro models, like the iPhone 14 Pro’s 48-megapixel camera and Dynamic Island. Reports of those two features trickling down the lineup have already been seen, however.
Apple is already thought to have concerns about the sales of its $899 iPhone 14 Plus, with customers seemingly choosing to pay $100 extra and get all of the new features that the iPhone 14 Pro has to offer — even if its 6.1-inch screen is notably smaller than the iPhone 14 Plus’s 6.7-inch screen.
If all goes according to previous years we can expect Apple to announce the iPhone 15 lineup in September, with the phones going on sale a week or so later.
