Apple’s upcoming iPhone 13 Pro will make use of Samsung Display’s LPTO technology to enable a 120Hz refresh rate, according to a new report.
While there was talk that a 120Hz display might come to the iPhone 12 Pro last year, that didn’t happen. Now, it seems, the iPhone 13 Pro is set to be the first iPhone with a high refresh rate. At least, that’s according to a new report coming out of TheElec.
Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier used by Apple for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels used in the two highest tier models of its next iPhone, TheElec has learned.
Both models of iPhone 13 will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistors (TFT) OLED panels made by Samsung Display.
Apple’s iPhone 13 will have four models and all of them will use OLED panels. The top two models will use LTPO OLED that can support 120Hz refresh rate.
Apple reportedly ditched the idea of a 120Hz display coming to the iPhone 12 Pro over battery concerns, but those will likely be addressed here. Samsung’s LPTO technology allows for a lower power usage, something Apple is always keen to keep tabs on.
Especially now iPhones feature power-hungry 5G radios. The addition of anew 120Hz screen will enable smoother, faster scrolling without the shadowing that some people notice today.
