If you’re already getting excited about the new iPad Air and iPad Pro updates that are expected to debut this month or next, there’s an interesting new rumor that you might want to pay some attention to.
The rumors claim that the new iPads, while sitting at the top of the lineup, might actually borrow a feature from the tablet at the very bottom.
The report claims that the new iPad Air and iPad Pro tablets will both move their FaceTime cameras from the top of the device to the side, allowing them to be used more naturally when the iPads are in a landscape orientation like when they are connected to a keyboard.
This is according to a MacRumors report based on a post to the Chinese social network Weibo by the leaker Instant Digital. It also backs up a claim that Apple intends to bring the same camera layout to the iPad Pro that was made in January. Code found in an early iOS 17.4 beta suggested that a Face ID prompt could ask the user to rotate the iPad into landscape mode.
If this report turns out to be accurate it will make video calls a better experience with the new iPads. The current FaceTime camera placement can cause users to appear as if they are looking off to the side, making it seem like they are not paying attention.
Apple is expected to announce the new iPad Pro and iPad Air tablets either in March or the early parts of April, reports have previously claimed.
