Apple’s iOS 14.5 Beta 6 Includes A New Battery Recalibration Tool

Apple’s iOS 14.5 Beta 6 release is now in the hands of developers and people are looking t see what’s new. One such thing appears to be a new tool that will allow an iPhone to recalibrate its battery should something be misbehaving.

Such a tool was found in iOS 14.5’s code by 9to5Mac and it appears it will pop up when a device shuts down due to a reduced peak battery performance.

The feature also appears to point users to a URL on Apple’s website which is already live.

Notably, Apple only lists the battery recalibration feature as being compatible with iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max as of right now although that’s more likely a copy issue rather than a limitation.

iOS 14.5, coming later this spring, includes an update where the battery health reporting system will recalibrate maximum battery capacity and peak performance capability on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max to address inaccurate estimates of battery health reporting for some users. Symptoms of this bug include unexpected battery drain behavior or, in a small number of instances, reduced peak performance capability. This inaccurate battery health reporting does not reflect an issue with actual battery health.

Apple’s iPhones shut themselves down when their batteries are not able to provide enough power. It seems that this feature will allow the device to ensure that its battery calibration is correct should a shutdown occur.
