Apple has been heavily rumored to be working on a new, foldable MacBook or some sort with an expected release window of 2026.
Now, a new report suggests that the foldable laptop won’t be the only big release in Apple’s MacBook lineup that year. If the analysts at Omdia are correct, Apple might be ready to launch its first OLED MacBook Pro in the same year.
That Omdia report, claims that demand for OLED displays is going to jump by 37% from 2023 to 2031 and it’s that one of the key drivers will be a move to OLED notebooks and tablets by companies including Apple.
Apple is highly likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026. This move could spark a significant surge in OLED demand within the notebook market, potentially reaching over 60 million units by 2031.
The move to OLED displays on Apple’s tablet lineup began with the iPad Pro this month while we can surely expect more of the lineup to make the switch in the coming years. Such displays can use less power while producing a brighter image as well as better colors and contrast — all things that are beneficial to laptops as well as tablets.
If Apple does start to use OLED displays in its laptop lineup we can of course expect it to do so with the MacBook Pro before bringing the technology to the MacBook Air.
