Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Could Debut In 2026

Apple is yet to enter the world of the foldable phone despite companies like Samsung and Google already having products available in that space.

However, a new report suggests that the first foldable iPhone is in the works and that it could launch in 2026.

That’s according to a report by the supply chain watchers at DigiTimes who claim that there are reports based on sources close to Apple that suggest development for a clamshell-like foldable phone is underway and has been since this year.

According to reports from Korean media outlets Hankooki and ET News, sources close to Apple indicate that the company has been conducting R&D on a top-down folding smartphone since 2024. The unfolded device is expected to have dimensions similar to existing iPhones.

It’s also suggested that Apple may have already done a deal with Samsung Display that will see the company supply the foldable display that will be used in the first foldable iPhone.

The news that Apple has chosen a clamshell design for the foldable iPhone will be disappointing to some who had hoped for a phone that unfolded into something similar to an iPad mini. That’s the form factor of the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Fold 6, for example, and would have allowed Apple Pencil support to come to the iPhone for the first time.
