Apple’s 13 And 15‑Inch MacBook Air Gain M3 Chips, And More

Apple has today announced its new and updated M3 MacBook Air models, with both 13- and 15-inch variations available on the same day. Previously, Apple has staggered the launch of its thinnest and lightest laptops.

Announced via a press release, the new laptops are up to 60% faster than the M1 MacBook Air and 14x faster than the fastest Intel-based model, Apple says.

The new laptops both feature Liquid Retina displays and of course M3 chips. Faster Wi-Fi is also part of the equation.

The M3 chip is built using TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process, something Apple says makes for the fastest and most capable MacBook Air.

Featuring a powerful 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and support for up to 24GB of unified memory, the new MacBook Air is up to 60 percent faster than the model with M1 and up to 13x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air. It also features up to 18 hours of battery life, which is up to six hours longer than an Intel-based MacBook Air. Users will feel the blazing speed of M3 in everything they do, from everyday productivity, to demanding tasks like photo and video editing, and software development. And with the next-generation GPU of M3, the new MacBook Air supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, offering more accurate lighting, reflections, and shadows for extremely realistic gaming experiences.

The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,099 while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. Both models come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as standard with more available if required.

Apple has also kept the M2 13-inch MacBook Air around, reducing the price to just $999. The M1 MacBook Air has now been discontinued, however.
