UltraFine 5K display which Apple made in partnership with LG is finally available for purchase with the company also extending its limited time pricing on the said monitor, as well as a number of USB-C compatible adapter accessories for the new MacBook and MacBook Pro users.
Likely done in an effort to entice consumers to adopt USB-C standard, the limited time promotional pricing, which was announced back in November and was due to expire at the end of December this year, has been extended until the end of the first quarter of 2017, last day of which happens to be March 31st. The said extension also includes discounted price for the new Thunderbolt 3-equipped UltraFine 5K display. Apple of course stipulates the usual “subject to availability” and “quantity limits apply” caveats.
Apple consumers are typically not used to seeing the company offering discounts and promotions on products, but given the backlash the company had to face from new MacBook Pro owners who felt aggrieved at having to get USB-A to USB-C and Thunderbolt adapters, it seems like Apple only had this way to try and resolve the situation.
From a product perspective, it’s actually an extremely enticing proposition for consumers considering the promotion also involves the stunning new LG UltraFine 5K display (UltraFine 4K also included), which can now be picked up for just $974. Stock of that hardware may be initially depleted, with shipping already sitting at around the 2-4 weeks mark, but it still makes perfect sense for consumers to get that order in now for the UltraFine 5K display while it’s still on sale.
The discounted price may be in place till March 31, 2017, but why wait if you know it’s a product you’re going to be interested in acquiring?
If the LG UltraFine 5K display is a little out of your price range, and you’re really only in the market to pick up some accessories for your new MacBook Pro, then you can grab a USB-C to USB-A Adapter, reduced from $19 to $9. Apple is also offering a USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter, reduced from $69 to $49, a 2 meter USB-C to Lightning cable for $29, down from original price of $35, and more.
It’s unlikely that USB-C accessories will make the best gifts this festive season, but you may as well grab some for yourself now if you envisage needing them.
