Apple will ship a new 5G-enabled iPhone SE as soon as the first half of next year, according to a report. That report says that the device will be similar to the current iPhone SE in terms of shape and design, likely meaning the Home button will stay.
The new iPhone SE that Kuo expects next year will be the cheapest 5G iPhone ever, something that could be impressive given the expected $400 price point.
Kuo has been pointing to 2022 for an iPhone SE refresh for some time now although this is the first time he’s been so specific as to say the first half of the year.
Beyond the addition of 5G we also expect a faster processor and perhaps some new colors to be included next time around. The same 4.7-inch screen size will remain.
Apple’s current iPhone SE has proven very popular thanks to its entry-level pricing and impressive performance. It’s a great starter iPhone for kids whose parents don’t want to have to buy them cheaper Android devices and that looks like a ploy that is set to continue, albeit with 5G thrown in for good measure.
Before then we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 13 lineup within the first couple of weeks of September 2021, although the biggest refresh will come in the second half of 2022 as Kuo has already said.
