Apple Will Reportedly Overtake HP As Leading All-In-One PC Vendor

Apple’s newest iMac will help it leapfrog HP as the world’s leading all-in-one (AIO) computer manufacturer. That’s according to industry sources cited by a new DigiTimes report.

Apple’s refreshed iMac is now available for pre-order and will be available to customers in the middle of this month.

The DigiTimes prediction comes from the belief that the current chip shortages are causing resources to be pushed towards more premium machines – including those produced by Apple. That, in turn, means the iMac.

The sources pointed out that high-end AIO PCs such as the ‌iMac‌ are only seeing limited impact from component shortages, but entry-level to mid-range products priced between NT$15,000 (US$536.51) and NT$30,000 have been hit much harder. Several ODMs have already halted their production for many AIO PCs because of component shortage, but ‌iMac‌ production remains unaffected, the sources said.

DigiTimes notes that HP is the current market leader in terms of AIO machines having shipped 925,000 units in the final quarter of 2020. By comparison, Apple reportedly shipped 860,000 units while Lenovo took third place with 731,000 units. With that in mind Apple wouldn’t need such a huge swing in sales to take top spot.

The new iMac comes with Apple’s M1 chip inside for the first time and features an all-new design in seven different colors. All of those things are sure to help drive sales.
