Apple’s recent release of macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 should help most people fix an issue that saw their MacBook Pros refuse to charge correctly, but there is still hope for those who are still suffering.
As noted by MacRumors, Apple has shared a new support document specifically related to the issue.
As that support article notes, there are a few steps to go through to make sure all is well – including updating to the latest version of macOS. But those who are still having problems can reach out to Apple and have a new battery installed free of charge.
If your 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro exhibits these behaviors, contact Apple to get your battery replaced, free of charge. Your computer will be examined prior to service to verify that it is eligible for the free battery replacement.
Apple says that this offer only involves specific MacBook Pro models, so you’ll need to ensure yours matches the following list before getting your free battery.
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
Anyone who needs to get their MacBook Pro battery replaced can reach out to Apple Support and get the ball rolling. Depending on whether Apple Stores are available in your area right now, it might be best to call or use the text chat option instead of heading into a store.
