The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is expected to be announced this fall, likely in September alongside the iPhone 15 lineup as well as the Apple Watch Series 9. And now a new report suggests that there might be a cool new color on the horizon.
That’s according to Bloomerg’s Mark Gurman, writing in the weekly Power On newsletter. He reports that “before the release of last year’s Ultra model, Apple tested a dark titanium color option.”
However, it was eventually decided against. “It ultimately canceled the option because designers didn’t like the appearance, but it could still theoretically arrive in 2023,” Gurman added.
The Apple Watch Ultra is currently only available in a single color, silver titanium. The addition of a new color could be a huge deal for those who liked the Apple Watch Ultra but were not fans of the silver finish.
However, it’s also possible that we simply won’t see this new color at all and that Apple will continue to offer just a single color option for its best Apple Watch.
One thing the Apple Watch Ultra 2 does look set to get is a new chip. Gurman says that a new S9 chip will offer performance improvements over the chips used in older Apple Watches. Recent Apple Watch models have all used a variation on the Apple Watch Series 6’s S6 chip and have offered minimal performance improvements.
