Apple Watch Series 3 Features, Release Date Time Frame Tipped In New Report

Apple Watch Series 3 features and release date time frame have been tipped in a new report today. Here are the details on it.

Apple is set to introduce a newly updated Apple Watch during the third quarter of 2017, bringing with it improved battery life but no further additions to functionality. At least that’s the verdict of a Chinese-language publication called Economic Daily News (EDN) which cites unnamed sources within the supply chain. The new Apple Watch, likely to be dubbed “Apple Watch Series 3”, will apparently be assembled by Taiwan-based Quanta – the same manufacturer behind current and previous-gen Apple Watch models.

Citing sources familiar with the plans of Quanta, the paper reports that improving the battery life capabilities of the future Apple Watch is the main consideration the company is currently working on.

With no further additions in functionality, design or feature-set apparently coming as part of the product refresh other than the normal speed boost expected of a new release, Quanta should have plenty of time to get its batteries to where Apple wants them. Current Apple Watch models do not suffer from particularly poor battery life, leaving the suggestion that this need for more longevity could be due to an increased power requirement of any upgrade in CPU.

As is perhaps to be expected of these things, Quanta declined to comment on the report and instead labeled it as simple “market speculation”.

While improved battery life is never a bad thing, most Apple Watch users will be hoping that the increase in battery capabilities will be due to the inclusion of a more powerful CPU, increasing the Watch’s responsiveness as a result. Rumors of a cellular radio being included in this year’s model have circulated for some time, and whilst that too would require an improved battery performance, the suggestion of no feature improvements this time around may suggest that this particular update will not be the one to offer iPhone-less operation.
