The big September 9 Apple event saw the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineups announced as expected, but the Apple Watch Series 10 is also one announcement that shouldn’t be ignored.
It brought with it a number of improvements for Apple Watch fans, not least the new, larger 46mm size. But there are new bands as well, so how does all of this work?
With new bands launching with the Series 10 the obvious question is whether those bands will work with the older models. Likewise, will the bands that have been sold over the last decade also work with the Apple Watch Series 10? Apple has sought to make things more clear in a new explainer on its website.
“You can match most bands with any Apple Watch Series 3 or later case of the same size,” Apple says. “40mm, 41mm, and 42mm bands are all compatible with 40mm, 41mm, 42mm case sizes. 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm bands are all compatible with 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm case sizes.” The explainer then goes on to explain that the “Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands are only compatible with Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 4 or later, and Apple Watch Ultra or later.”
Apple continues, adding that for “Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop, the 40mm, 41mm, and 42mm cases are compatible with band sizes 0-9; the 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm cases are compatible with band sizes 0-12.”
All of that means that you need to be sure that the band you’re buying will work with your Apple Watch and vice versa before you splash any cash on a new watch or accessory. Apple also announced six new bands including the $199 Titanium Milanese Loop, the Hermès Twill Jump Attelage Single Tour ($349), and the Hermès Torsade Single Tour which costs the same price. The Hermès Torsade Double Tour costs an extra $100 as does the Hermès En Mer.
Those who really want to push the boat out can spend an entire $999 on the Hermès Grand H, but you probably shouldn’t.
