Apple is expected to announce a new Apple Watch Pro next month with some rumors claiming that it won’t be compatible with existing bands. That seemed unlikely and now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes that they will indeed work.
The earlier reports by a post on Weibo suggested that the change in size and design of the new rugged Apple Watch Pro would prevent the current Apple Watch bands from being compatible.
The Apple Watch Pro is thought to have a larger display than the current Apple Watch Series 7 and upcoming Apple Watch Series 8, and that was suggested as one reason why the bands wouldn’t fit. Now, Gurman says otherwise, although there may be a caveat.
I believe the Apple Watch Pro will support older bands — though maybe they won’t fit as well or look as seamless given the size of the new watch.
That might suggest that those who are expecting to use their existing Apple Watch bands will notice that they don’t fit as well as they could. It also isn’t clear whether we should expect bands that are sold for the Apple Watch Pro to work with the standard Apple Watch Series 8, however.
We’re expecting Apple to announce the new watches alongside the iPhone 14 lineup next month, so we only have a couple of weeks to wait before we know for sure, thankfully. Perhaps hold off buying any new bands between now and then.
