Apple Watch Includes Fitbit-like Silent Alarm Feature

We still don’t know the exact date when Apple will bring its Apple Watch to the masses, but as its designer Jony Ive goes on tour around the globe we’re starting to hear more and more information about both the design process involved in making the Apple Watch a reality and the features that it will posses.

The latest feature to be outed by Ive is one that will sound very familiar to those who have been wearing a Fitbit device for a while, because it’s a silent alarm clock that wakes the wearer up without making any sound.

According to Ive, the Apple Watch can wake people up by ‘tapping them on the wrist,’ presumably by using that fancy Taptic Engine that Apple is so pleased about. In reality, wearers will have their wrists vibrated when they’re due to wake up, which has the benefit of not waking anyone else up when it’s your wakeup call – a brilliant feature if you happen to be sharing a bedroom with a baby.

Trust us on that.

Of course, Fitibit has been doing this for years, but that isn’t going to stop Apple marketing the Apple Watch’s silent alarm feature to within an inch of its life and nor should it.

It’s probably rather safe to say that people won’t base their Apple Watch buying decisions on whether it has a fancy alarm clock though, and with months still to pass before anyone can walk into an Apple Store and buy one we expect to hear about some much more compelling features between now and then.

Hopefully something a little more useful than being able to send your heartbeat to someone, too.
