Plenty of people who were unable to get to the Apple Store website quick enough on Apple Watch pre-order day have found that their orders have an expected dispatch time of somewhere around June, which is quite frankly, ridiculous. We knew that Apple’s first wearable is proving popular, but that’s just madness.
MacRumors reader Andrew Turko agrees, and he sent an email to Apple’s executive team that affect over the weekend and has received a reply that may give some people hope for the future. At least as far as their orders go.
According to Turko, Apple’s executive team got back in touch to suggest that those with long lead times may find that their watches ship sooner than expected. There was no indication as to just how much sooner, and if your current order says it won’t arrive before June there is plenty of scope for that to change between now and then. Apple points to a similar situation with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch last year where orders had long delivery estimates but were in fact arriving quite a bit quicker, at least sometimes. Hopefully the Apple Watch will follow a similar pattern this time around.
Turko also told Apple that the idea of an April 24th launch that didn’t actually have any in-store availability was perhaps not the best course of action, with the prediction that people will likely still line up at stores entirely likely to come true. Apple’s marketing materials mention the April 24th date but do not say that in-store purhcasing will not be an option. Apple says that it is currently working on its launch and that things may change between now and then. Given the truncated timescale though, the company is going to need to be quick about it.
