The Apple Vision Pro has been on sale for a little more than a week at this point and while it’s only available to those in the United States, it’s already causing quite the stir online.
The headset costs at least $3,499 which was always going to be enough to capture the attention, but some people have taken things a step further by turning the headset into content on YouTube.
And it’s this which one analyst says has made the Apple Vision Pro more readily accepted when compared to products like Google Glass.
The Google Glass product was never fully accepted by people who didn’t wear one, causing the infamous Glasshole term to be attached to anyone who did. But that hasn’t happened with the Apple Vision Pro and people have been seen walking around the streets wearing it. That, it seems, is an indication of how well received it has been in public. That’s according to analyst Neil Cybart in a series of posts on the X social network.
Content creators, sensing opportunity with Vision Pro, then took to the streets. While the videos were staged as seen by the fake hand gestures, they were real in terms of relying on Vision Pro’s passthrough to walk around and be seen. These examples do play a role in building societal acceptance for Vision Pro in public.
Of course, walking around with at least $3,499 strapped to your head is always going to get attention, whether you want it to or not. But with Apple likely working on turning the Vision Pro into something smaller, like Google Glass, we might see more people wearing these things int he decade to come.
