Apple’s second-generation Vision Pro headset is in the works, but don’t expect it anytime soon.
According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the updated device is set to debut between late 2025 and early 2026. The biggest change? It’s expected to feature Apple’s upcoming M5 chip, offering a significant performance boost over the current M2 chip found in the first-gen Vision Pro.
This timeline aligns with predictions from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who recently said that an updated Vision Pro with the M5 chip and something called “Apple Intelligence” is planned for 2025. However, even by 2026, Apple could be introducing its M6 chip, so the M5 might already feel a bit dated by the time the headset launches.
Despite the internal upgrades, the second-gen Vision Pro may look pretty similar to the first model. A reports have suggested that Apple will reuse many of the same components, with only minor changes to its physical design.
In the meantime, Apple is also exploring the smart glasses market. Gurman revealed that the company has employees testing out products like Snapchat Spectacles and Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. These devices let users record video, take calls, and play music, giving Apple insights into consumer interest. Gurman speculates Apple could even develop a version of AirPods in a glasses form.
For now, Apple seems focused on refining its AR/VR tech before making any major design leaps.
